Community Outreach
Do you reside in Sooke, Sidney, the Cowichan Valley or Greater Nanaimo? Other military families who live nearby would benefit from your knowledge of the local area and your skills in organizing events. If you would like to help families connect with each other or if you enjoy connecting with community programs and services in the area, we’d like to hear from you.
Deployment
If you are experiencing a deployment, or can relate and empathize with those who are, please consider becoming a volunteer and lending your support to the Deployment Program. We have an increased need for volunteers to assist with a variety of special events, activities and programs for military families during deployments.
Family Network Coordinators
Become a vital part of a successful deployment by getting involved as a Family Network Volunteer. Have fun while making connections with your community. Enhance your group facilitation skills, provide information and support to your fellow military families while gaining experience with communications and organizing special events. Share your skills and knowledge. Interested? You will need approximately six hours per month. Check out the current vacancies. We need extra volunteers for all Family Networks to assist with activities, communications and planning. Check out the job description here.
Francophone Programs
Volunteering with the MFRC is an ideal way for Francophones to meet new people and to practice speaking English. There are many volunteer opportunities available including working with children and youth, helping with special events, assisting with translation and more!
Pregnancy and Labour Companions
Are you interested in pregnancy and labour support and part of the military community? The MFRC is looking for volunteers from the military community to become labour companions for expectant parents. The Pregnancy and Labour Companion program provides support for pregnant moms and their spouses facing the challenges of the military lifestyle such as deployment and relocation. As a labour companion, you will receive training, support and education relating to your role.
Preschool
Needed: Helpful Hands and Eager Ears! The MFRC needs help in the MFRC Casual Child Care Program. We’re looking for assistance with the tiny ones and support and encouragement for the toddlers, onsite during regular daytime hours, Tuesday to Friday. Volunteers assist with playtime and snacks, and find rewards in the smiles, laughter and animated storytelling of the children. Morning and afternoon positions are available. Check out the job description here.
Rainbows
Rainbows is a peer support program that enables children and youth to work through their issues of grief and loss. Caring, committed, compassionate volunteers facilitate weekly sessions in a safe, comfortable, non-judgmental environment. Adult support and assistance with the MFRC Rainbows on Monday afternoon is essential. Check out the job description here.
Research Assistants
Are you Internet-savvy? Do you want to do research from home as a volunteer? We have opportunities that may be of interest to you too! Check out the job description here.
Special Events
Special events are ongoing throughout the year and always in need of support from volunteers. Jobs vary from planning committees to set-up crews. Come learn about event planning and execution while enjoying the fun and camaraderie of these special events. Help is needed with Formation Fun Day in August, West Coast Welcome in September, and Pacific Women’s Day in November.
